RDP(Also known as RDS) 8 provides a range of performance benefits in additional to various bug fixes for computers running Windows 7 and newer.

To update to the latest version of the remote desktop protocol (version 8)  in the St Andrews Domain follow the following steps.

Step 1 : Determine Windows version

Firstly determine if you're running 32 bit windows or 64 bit windows.

To do this simply press the windows key + Pause Break on your keyboard and you'll get the following screen (alternatively go into system under control panel)

Step 2: Run the appropriate updates

Now that you know which version of windows you have you can now run the appropriate updates, the updates are found in the IT folder (q drive or \\sta-ad01\it\ ) .

Browse to the folder by going into my computer then double click on the IT drive, it'll look something like below.

Step 3: Install updates in order and reboot if necessary

The last step is to install the updates above as listed in the order listed above i.e.

For a 32 bit install:

- Run Windows6.1-KB2574819-V2-x86.msu

- Laslty run RDS01settings.reg and select OK to import the settings.

Note: You may be required to reboot after each update, if the update requests a reboot please allow it to reboot.  If none of them ask for a reboot at the end, still reboot anyway.

Additional Note: you may be asked for a username and password to install these updates, please use the Administrator username and password.

That's it!
